Long Island Recognizes Outstanding Buddy Pair
by LISA SCHOUTEN
Best Buddies New York
Last spring, a record number of 15 students requested an interview for the position of Chapter President at South Side High School. What makes this so amazing is that the school had not even started their Best Buddies chapter yet!
The selection process was extremely difficult because it was clear every student applying would make a strong leader. Lindsey Levine was selected to serve as South Sides first Best Buddies Chapter President.
Many of the other applicants have taken Officer roles and all are working together extremely well planning activities, fundraisers and awareness events. While dozens of great friendship connections of have been created this year, there is a pair who stands out.
Leah and Sandy were matched in September and have since talked on the phone nearly every day. The girls describe doing things that any other typical teenage pair would do in their time together: Shopping at the mall, eating at Applebees and going to the movies. They even attended another friends Sweet 16 party together!
The success of South Side High Schools Best Buddies chapter is outstanding and truly embraces the mission of Best Buddies. |
